| Our
Focus
The
gardens will be open to the public and may simply appear to be no
more than a collection of beautiful, accessible gardens to visit,
which will allow for some of the best healing/wellness of all!
We believe that when the World Health Organization defines health
as…” a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being
and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” they are CORRECT!
Some
of our gardens will be adapted and specifically designed for visitors
who may have physical limitations or who could benefit from the
principles of Horticultural Therapy
. Other gardens will be developed to enhance multi-generational
interaction. Some will simply be wonderful places to explore.
The
Wellness Gardens will have preventative awareness programs,
alternative health and lifestyle events and horticultural therapy
activities.
Much
of our focus will be specifically on individuals and family members,
who have been given a diagnosis, undergoing treatment, or are in
recovery from cancer. However we believe EVERYONE can increase their
overall sense of well-being by experiencing The Wellness Gardens.
The
American Cancer Society’s 2004 statistical research states, that
lifetime probability of developing cancer in the USA is 1 in 2 men,
and 1 in 3 women. This extremely high probability rate , combined
with cancer representing the number 2 cause of mortality, at 22.9%
of all deaths in 2001, acts as a driver to our efforts. We believe
these disturbing statistics indicate literally EVERYONE will be
affected by cancer, either directly, or with a loved one who experiences
this dreadful disease. |
